Facts about Kuna, Idaho
Found in Ada County, Kuna has the distinction of being one of the fastest-growing areas of Idaho. With a current population of more than 24,000, the city has increased in population by 60% during the 2010-2020 period.
Kuna was originally set up as a railroad stop on the way to Boise. The origin of the name has been attributed to this function, referring to the place as the end of the trail. Other sources indicate that Kuna is derived from the Shoshone word that roughly translates as “green leaf, good to smoke.”
Located 18 miles southwest of downtown Boise, Kuna is home to an annual celebration known as Kuna Day. Taking place over a long weekend in August, the celebration offers plenty of food and amusement vendors, displays by local businesses, and live music. There’s a carnival for children as well as a duck race in Indian Creek. Street dances, a parade, and a barbecue fundraiser for the local fire department are among the offerings at Kuna Day. The event ends with a beautiful fireworks display.
