Found in the western area of Valley County, McCall was first known as a logging community. While still honoring that history, the city is known today as a resort town that offers visitors the chance to get away from it all any time of the year. With a population approaching 3,000, McCall is poised to continue building a reputation as the place to spend a vacation.
The area where modern-day McCall is based was first settled in 1889 by Thomas and Louisa McCall. Continuing growth throughout the area led to the city being incorporated in 1911 as a town. One of the more prominent businesses in McCall was a sawmill. While being sold more than once, the mill remained in operation and supplied a significant number of local jobs until 1977.
Today, McCall boasts a history that includes being the site for a number of motion pictures, plenty of natural beauty, and an ideal recreational site. This has led to a tourism playing a major role in the life of the city.
